A last check-in with our MAS colleagues to see if they're #XmasReady

Two weeks to go! Are you #XmasReady?

You can’t avoid it anymore. The decorations are up, lights are on and the carols are playing.

Christmas is just around the corner and if you’re not already #XmasReady, there is not much time left.

So let’s catch up with our three Money Advice Service colleagues to see if they’re prepared for the big day.

A bit of a disaster this month. I took full advantage of Black Friday but found my customer experience was dreadful. I saved 30% on two jumpers, but they arrived faulty. A blouse turned up so creased that it had to be returned and I was actually sent completely the wrong order on another purchase where I’d tried to save 25%. All this has meant extra stress and time spent in the post office, standing in long queues to return things.

Fortunately, as I’d bought everything online, I’m protected by the regulations covering online purchases. This means I can get a full refund with no hassle. But it’s back to square one on the present buying and time’s running out…

I’ve been in full gift-buying mode the last couple of weeks and, even if I do say so myself, I think I’ve done well. I took advantage of store card offers to get some gifts for the family and was even able to get double points on some things.

Then, because I spent more than £75 in the supermarket, I got a small Christmas hamper as a freebie. This should take care of presents for wider friends, family and maybe even a secret Santa. I know I’ve got a few people left to buy for, but I’m in far less of a panic than I was last year.

With Christmas already planned, I have been thinking more about getting myself a well-deserved present. My winter coat has seen better days, so I decided to go on the hunt for a new one in the pre-Christmas sales.

I did some research and had a price bracket in mind, but when the sales came around I wasn’t particularly impressed with the discounts available. So, for now I’m holding on to my old coat and will hope for some better luck in the January sales. I suppose this is a lesson about always investigating the best price and being prepared to wait for what you want to come along.
