Achieving consistent and high quality Debt Advice – An approach to Standards and Quality Assurance for the debt advice sector response

The Money Advice Service has published its new quality framework designed to raise the bar for organisations operating within the debt advice sector. This follows a three month consultation on a draft framework earlier in the year.

Three guiding principles sit at the heart of the framework and recognise that high quality organisations providing debt advice should be focused on clients’ needs, be well governed and be committed to learning. The response to the publication and published framework can be found below here.

The Service will now appoint an external organisation to verify which of the standards within the debt advice sector are compliant with the framework in order to issue accreditation.

We will continue to work across the debt advice sector with partners to agree a common set of tasks and supporting skills and competencies required for individuals delivering debt advice.

This will formulate the component of the quality framework for individuals delivering debt advice which will be published later this year.
