Press release: Joint 'good practice' launch with Chartered Institute of Housing and Barclays
15 April 2011
Friday hosted jointly with the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Barclays an event to launch a CIH good practice report ‘Improving financial inclusion and capability in social housing’. This rounds off our successful partnership over the last two years and builds a bridge to the Money Advice Service and our health check.
Since 2008, we have jointly-funded with Barclays two Financial Inclusion Advisers (FIAs) to help social housing providers help their tenants with money matters and financial inclusion. This has enabled 250 housing providers to help thousands of tenants affected by the economic downturn.
The report gives compelling evidence for providing money advice for social tenants, with a series of case studies - including one from our Money Advisers in the North West. It highlights the financial savings achieved through the project for thousands of individuals and their landlords.
The report helps other housing providers adopt or adapt the methods used, giving lessons learned from the project, and drawing on the experience of leading housing providers gives tried-and-tested methods of giving tenants the money advice they want and need.
The event was attended by representatives from across the sector, including social housing landlords, advice organisations, and benefit providers such as the DWP.
