Update on debt advice telephone capacity

The Money Advice Service (MAS) continues to progress the implementation of increasing debt advice telephone provision as detailed in the 2016/17 Business Plan, supporting our wider objective to fund over 425,000 sessions during this period.

To build on work already taking place to drive greater collaboration across the debt advice sector, we have invited three organisations, Citizens Advice, Money Advice Trust and StepChange Debt Charity to co-ordinate a proposal to build this capacity. To ensure that the capacity can be met within the timescales, we anticipate that any response should be a collaborative approach with a strong desire to involve other debt advice providers as well as creditors as appropriate.

An announcement on how the service will be delivered will be made in August, and the service is scheduled to commence in October 2016.
