Are they #XmasReady?

Just 12 short weeks ago we challenged three Money Advice Service colleagues to keep track of their Christmas spending.

Now, with just a few days to go until the big day, it’s time for one final check in to make sure they are all #XmasReady.

#XmasReady goal - I have to admit I’m a slow starter when it comes to Christmas, so I wanted to get planning earlier. I would score myself 7/10

I’ve only got a few last-minute presents to buy now. I’m going to wait until a couple of days before Christmas to see if I can pick up any early sale bargains. Just the (not so) small matter of the wrapping to do and then I’ll be ready to relax and enjoy the festive season with family and friends.

I’m running a bit low on cash, so pay day can’t come soon enough. Maybe next year I’ll save a bit more in September and October to give me a cushion in December. However, I usually don’t spend very much in between Christmas and New Year, so I’m hoping January won’t be too grim as I’ll have time to catch up.

#XmasReady goal - Give my family a really great Christmas and afford a trip to Spain to see the in-laws. As I’ve achieved this I would score myself 9/10

I’m feeling fairly smug that the bulk was done in November and early December and this #XmasReady challenge has really encouraged me to be on the ball with loyalty card offers.

Every year I promise myself I will sort out some of next year's Christmas presents in the January sales and never do, but this year I think I might finally get round to it.

#XmasReady goal - I did most of my stuff well in advance, so I have not had much to do in the lead up to Christmas. Overall, I’m pleased, but there is always room for improvement so I would give myself 9/10.

In short, our plans this year have gone very well and we’ll do the same again.

My sister is loving secret Santa and my wife is thinking about doing our cards next year online and giving what we would spend on postage to charity. We wouldn’t do it every year, but once makes sense.
